blogkomm.com: comments for blogger-type weblogs

So at least they did it. When I started blogkomm in 2001, I always had the wish to place comments like in Greymatter: no pop-ups and directly below the post. This is why i started to script on blogkomm. First with a MySQL database, later -file-based- the way you may test and download here.

But let's have a closer look at their new service:

• if you don't want anonymous comments, you need to let your readers sign up for blogger.com. i mean why not, as blogging should be done by everyone. the problem is: it's a barrier for everyone who wants just drop a note including his blog-url or e-mail. the user is forced to create a profile
• it's a hosted service. comments are written in a post-form hosted at blogger.com. if their server is down, you won't be able to let people comment.
• blogkomm and most other services just need one line to be added to your template ;)
• blogger.com has just a simple notification service
• blogger offers no "recent comments feature" as you may see in my sidebar
• blogger is only in english, as well as their commenting interface

Unfortunately blogger.com has deleted every external link to all comment-services in their knowledge-base. I would appreciate if they let the user decide or at least the option to check for other possibilities. Maybe the owners of all known services should come together and write an "open letter" to blogger to keep us listed there.

Anyway, i am happy that the service was still under development. Commenting-features are standard and the way they implemented it's the way i wanted since July 2000. But keep testing! blogkomm offers some extra features that blogger.com is not able to provide. (by now)

If you want to have a real new blogger.com feeling you can use blogkomm too: Tao Jones who wrote a hack for using blogkomm in pop-ups (!) made me find a solution for just showing the single post and it's comments. more about that soon.

I was wondering what you would think of the new Blogger feature. Thanks for posting the post-form link. I wanted to know what that looked like, but not enough to mess with my blog (yet). Actually I'm so lazy I haven't implemented blogkomm 1.7 on my site yet. I'm looking forward to your solution for showing just a single post. Keep up the good work!

So Holger, are you developing a solution that will work with Blogger's new Post pages? Right now, on Post Pages, there are errors:

Warning: fopen(blogkomm/comments.txt): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in *edited*/blogkomm/module/

I'm assuming that's becasue you have written blogkomm to work in the top level directory. Now that post pages are in their own folders by year and by month, blog komm doesn't work. It work fine on the main index page though. Iassume there's just some directory work that needs to be done. Is a solution on the way?

Can you delete individual Blogkomm comments? I'm testing an implementation and I don't see any way to do it.

very good analysis of the differences ;-) you are still 2 steps forward, no fear! i must say that the idea of pushing the sign-in of all the people who want to let a non-anonymous comment is definitely bad. furthermore, no html allowed in the blogger comments!!
i will try to implement your new version 1.8 as soon as possible.

why didn't they just ask for help from people like you who have a clue about how to add comments? I am beyond shocked at how bad blogger comments is. They can keep it, I'll keep blogkomm...
